The Statistics User Forum (SUF), supported by the Office for National Statistics, aims to be the strategic voice of users of official statistics. The Forum acts as an umbrella organisation for user groups, each of which covers a particular area across the spectrum of official statistics. Through the Forum we enable open and constructive dialogue between users and producers of official statistics and encourage communication across the user community.

    Dear SUF colleagues,

There are still a few places left on this event, hosted by Iain Bell (who took part in the SUF meeting last March). Please contact ons.communications@ons.gov.uk asap.

An invitation from Iain Bell, Deputy National Statistician.

As the Deputy National Statistician for Population and Public Policy at ONS, I am inviting you and your colleagues to attend an event where we will explore policy issues around young people and intergenerational fairness. In particular, I want to work with you to understand the burning policy questions, and how better data can help answer them. We will also be presenting new data on wages, earnings and career progression.

At the event ONS and guest speakers will discuss issues facing young people including earnings, housing, employment, skills, career progression and poverty, and how they relate to older generations. We will also explore how new data sources could shed further light on these issues. Laura Gardiner from the Resolution Foundation and other guest speakers will give their views before taking your questions in a Q&A panel.

The event will take place on 30th October from 09:30 – 12:00 at the BEIS Conference Centre, 1 Victoria Street, Westminster, SW1H 0ET. I will be joined by senior colleagues from academia, civil society, trade associations and government.

I would be delighted if you could join me, so together we can improve the evidence base on young people and intergenerational fairness.
