The Statistics User Forum (SUF), supported by the Office for National Statistics, aims to be the strategic voice of users of official statistics. The Forum acts as an umbrella organisation for user groups, each of which covers a particular area across the spectrum of official statistics. Through the Forum we enable open and constructive dialogue between users and producers of official statistics and encourage communication across the user community.

1.  RSS Award for Excellence in Official Statistics: Deadline 24th May 2013

Posted 08-05-2013 18:13

For the fourth time the RSS is running an award for excellence in official statistics. The aim is to reward and promote good practice in the field of official statistics, specifically focusing on meeting the needs of the wider user community.

If any member of the Forum or of an associated group would like to nominate any  statistical output you use or are aware of which meets this criteria, this would be most welcome and appropriate. The deadline is May 24th.

Examples of what we are looking for are:

  • An excellent statistical release that is informative, clearly presented, and adds value to the published statistics;
  • an excellent or innovative way to communicate results that is clear and helpful to a wide array of users;
  • an excellent demonstration of gathering information on the requirements of a range of users, and using this information to shape outputs;
  • use of existing administrative data (either public or private) to respond to unmet needs, or to replace more expensive data collection processes;
  • an innovative statistical development.

Work should have been either carried out or essentially completed in 2012.

Details are at from which an application form can be downloaded.

Please could you circulate this round your group?
