The Statistics User Forum (SUF), supported by the Office for National Statistics, aims to be the strategic voice of users of official statistics. The Forum acts as an umbrella organisation for user groups, each of which covers a particular area across the spectrum of official statistics. Through the Forum we enable open and constructive dialogue between users and producers of official statistics and encourage communication across the user community.

A different kind of recognition of ONS?

Crossword experts will no doubt easily solve a cryptic clue that I struggled with recently -

Government statisticians are amused by introduction of tax charge (9 letters).

Having now seen the answer, it turns out that the correct way to read the clue is:

Government statisticians=ONS/are amused=laugh/by introduction of tax=t(ax) which gives onslaught (ie charge).

Is this the first time that ONS has featured in a crossword clue? Too much to conclude that the crossword setter knows of ONS and anticipates that the crossword audience will know of it also!
