The development of regional price indices

    Dear users,

With thanks to Southampton University, we published a second set of research earlier this week looking at the development of regional consumer price indices. This second phase builds on the work published in November 2017, and attempts to stabilise the volatility seen in the regional baskets/weights. The article is linked below and we would welcome any comments or questions. The next phase of work will now focus on the price sample used in the calculations, and consider if modelling or alternative data sources will improve the quality of indices being produced.

    Thank you for this information.

However, I don't think anyone is going to take notice of this until the basic problems with ONS price indices  are resolved.

The two main problems are the formula effect and the treatment of OOH costs.

If these cannot be resolved at national level, who is going to take account of ONS indices at regional level.

Completely agree with Gareth on this.

And I have always been an advocate of regional indices.

I have been talking to people in France about a totally different approach to things.
