Voluntary Sector Statistics User Event
Date: 27th June 2013
Timing: 1.30pm – 4.00pm
Venue: Royal Statistical Society, 12, Errol Street, London, EC1Y 8LX
This event aims to raise awareness of the potential uses of official statistics by the voluntary sector, and discuss the creation of a Voluntary Sector Statistics User Group. There will be a particular focus at this event on the use of Census data by the sector.
This session will provide background to the organisation of the Statistics User Forum (SUF), the various User Groups that are members of SUF, and how SUF engages and influences producers of official statistics. There will also be a presentation of StatsUserNet.org.uk, which is the official online portal for producers and users of official statistics to engage and consult with each other.
Results from the Population Census 2011 are now being published in stages by the Office for National Statistics, and new data at a local level are due to be published at the end of the week of this event. This session will describe what is coming soon, show examples of how Census data have been used, and demonstrate the tools that are being made available to make it easier to access Census data for a wide variety of users.
This session will discuss the options being considered for producing Census-type of statistics in the future, and possible implications for the Voluntary Sector. The Office for National Statistics is in the process of developing the options and welcomes input from current and potential users. There will be a formal public consultation later in 2013, and this event provides an early opportunity to see options as they are being developed.
