Statistics User Forum

The Statistics User Forum (SUF), supported by the Office for National Statistics, aims to be the strategic voice of users of official statistics. The Forum acts as an umbrella organisation for user groups, each of which covers a particular area across the spectrum of official statistics. Through the Forum we enable open and constructive dialogue between users and producers of official statistics and encourage communication across the user community.

Workshops on improving use and usefulness of official statistics

15-10-2018 12:58

Dear SUF and user group colleagues (and all members of the statistics user community) -

We have heard often the fine words that users will be at the heart of everything that the producers of official statistics do - though actually little has changed! There are beacons of good practice around ONS and the rest of the GSS, whilst elsewhere it seems that the culture remains firmly centred on the production of statistics and not on their use or their usefulness.

I think we now have an opportunity to help make a change of focus, onto users and uses of official statistics.

The attached short note builds on the proposal brought to the July SUF meeting for a series of workshops. Please read it and sign up for one or more of the workshops, or indeed to lead one of them. Details are given in the note. Please respond as indicated as soon as possible, and by Friday 26th October at the latest.

Thank you. I look forward to your participation in this.

Paul
